Sustainability Policy
Sustainability mission statement
Journeys That Matter
“We believe travel should enrich both the traveller and the destination. At 360 Travel Design, our mission is to craft authentic journeys across Ireland that preserve natural landscapes, empower local communities, and ensure future generations can experience the same beauty we share today.”
Adoption of the UN Tourism Organisation definition of sustainable tourism
At 360 Travel Design, we believe that sustainable tourism is tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social, and environmental impacts while addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment, and host communities (UN Tourism, n.d.). We therefore aim to reduce our negative effects and increase our positive impacts.
Our commitment to measuring energy consumption
As our business and employees operate primarily from a work‑from‑home model, we recognise that energy consumption sits largely within individual home working environments. We therefore encourage all employees to monitor their own energy use where possible and to apply the energy‑reduction principles outlined below while working from home, in order to minimise overall energy consumption associated with our business operations.
Maximising natural light
Encouraging employees to use natural daylight where possible, reducing reliance on artificial lighting.
Powering down equipment
Ensuring computers and other office equipment are turned off at the end of each working day, rather than left on standby overnight.
Reducing unnecessary energy use
Promoting mindful use of electricity by switching off lights, printers, and other devices when not in use, especially in shared spaces and meeting rooms.
Our commitment to measuring water consumption
As our business operates primarily on a work‑from‑home basis, water consumption related to business activities occurs mainly within individual households. We encourage all employees to be mindful of their water use, to monitor consumption where possible, and to apply the water‑reduction principles outlined below while working from home and when travelling for work purposes.
Educating staff and clients
Promoting awareness of water conservation through internal communication and encouraging responsible behaviour both in the workplace and while travelling.
Encouraging mindful water use in the workplace
Reminding employees to turn off taps properly, avoid unnecessary water use, and report any leaks or issues promptly.
Reducing unnecessary water consumption
Limiting water use in daily operations (e.g. only running dishwashers when full, avoiding excessive use in kitchen areas, and promoting reusable cups and bottles).
Our commitment to measuring waste production
Given our primarily work‑from‑home operating model, waste production linked to our business activities takes place largely within employees’ home environments. We encourage all employees to monitor and reduce their waste generation where possible and to follow the waste‑reduction, reuse and recycling principles outlined below while working from home and during business travel.
Promoting recycling and proper waste segregation
Encouraging staff to separate waste correctly.
Embedding the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle
Actively promoting a circular approach to resource use by reducing unnecessary consumption, reusing materials where possible, and recycling responsibly.
Minimising paper usage
Encouraging digital documentation and communication wherever possible to reduce printing, and ensuring any necessary printing is done responsibly.
Single-use plastic reduction policy
Committing to reducing single-use plastics in our operations and encouraging staff, suppliers, and clients to choose sustainable alternatives such as reusable or recyclable products.
Educating staff and customers
Raising awareness of waste reduction practices through communication and encouraging sustainable behaviours among clients when planning and undertaking travel.
How our business supports ethical purchasing
We are committed to making responsible and ethical purchasing decisions across all aspects of our operations and supply chain. As a DMC, we recognise the importance of working with suppliers who share our values and contribute positively to local communities and the environment.
Our ethical purchasing principles include:
Responsible supplier selection
We aim to work with local, independently owned suppliers, accommodation providers, and service partners who demonstrate strong environmental and social responsibility practices.
Fair and transparent business practices
We aim to build long-term relationships with suppliers based on fairness, integrity, and mutual respect, ensuring timely payments and ethical contracting.
Preference for sustainable products and services
Where possible, we choose suppliers who reduce environmental impact, minimise waste, support local sourcing, and demonstrate commitment to sustainability standards.
Supporting local economies
We actively prioritise purchasing from local businesses and community-based tourism providers to ensure economic benefits remain within the destination.
How our business demonstrates social responsibility
We are committed to contributing positively to communities across Ireland through responsible tourism and meaningful local engagement.
We support local communities by:
Supporting cultural respect and authentic experiences
We design itineraries that encourage respectful interaction with local cultures, heritage, and traditions, helping to preserve and celebrate Ireland’s cultural identity.
Encouraging responsible client behaviour
We educate clients on respectful travel practices, including cultural sensitivity, responsible consumption, and positive engagement with local communities.
Supporting community initiatives through sponsorships and donations
We aim to contribute to local charities, events, and community projects through sponsorships, donations, and partnerships that help support social, cultural, and environmental wellbeing. For example, we actively participate in beach clean-up initiatives within our local communities.
Supporting community-based tourism initiatives
Where possible, we try and collaborate with community-led tourism projects and experiences that create sustainable income opportunities for local people.
How our business supports biodiversity/conservation
We are committed to supporting the protection and enhancement of biodiversity across Ireland. We recognise the importance of preserving natural habitats, wildlife, and ecosystems for future generations and aim to contribute positively through responsible tourism practices and partnerships.
We support biodiversity and conservation by:
Supporting conservation organisations
We aim to support initiatives such as the Irish Wildlife Trust and other conservation bodies working to protect Ireland’s natural heritage and biodiversity. We also work with organisations such as Burrenbeo Trust, facilitating group visits, educational talks, and making contributions through donations and partnerships that support their conservation and education work.
Promoting responsible tourism in natural environments
We encourage clients and partners to respect wildlife, habitats, and protected areas, ensuring minimal disturbance and adherence to responsible travel guidelines.
Encouraging sustainable nature-based experiences
We prioritise experiences and suppliers that operate in harmony with nature and demonstrate strong environmental stewardship.
Our commitment to carbon management
We are committed to actively reducing our carbon footprint. We prioritise reducing emissions at source and seek opportunities to support credible carbon offsetting initiatives where appropriate.
We prioritise reducing our carbon footprint by:
Reducing unnecessary travel and emissions
Encouraging efficient travel planning, remote communication where appropriate, and selecting lower-impact transport options where possible.
Working with sustainable suppliers
Prioritising partners who demonstrate strong environmental practices and a commitment to reducing their own carbon emissions.
Promoting rail and lower-carbon transport options
Where feasible, we encourage the use of rail and other lower-emission transport alternatives within Ireland.
Reducing energy consumption in our operations
Implementing energy-saving practices in the workplace, including responsible use of lighting, heating, and electronic equipment.
Our commitment to responsible marketing
We are committed to communicating our sustainability efforts honestly, transparently, and responsibly. We recognise the importance of ensuring that all marketing and communications accurately reflect our actions and progress.
We commit to responsible marketing by:
Ensuring honesty and transparency
We communicate our sustainability journey clearly and truthfully, acknowledging both our achievements and areas where we are still improving.
Promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
We represent people, communities, and destinations in an inclusive and respectful way across all marketing materials and communications.
Practising ethical digital marketing
We respect user privacy, use data responsibly, and ensure our digital communications are fair, targeted appropriately, and compliant with relevant regulations.
Maintaining openness and accountability
We are transparent with clients, partners, and stakeholders about our sustainability commitments and welcome feedback to continuously improve.
Our commitment to continuous improvement
Sustainability is a journey of continuous improvement, and at 360 Travel Design we recognise that we are at the beginning of this journey with much still to learn. We are committed to developing our practices over time, strengthening our impact, and continuously improving the way we operate.
While we are still early in our sustainability journey, we are actively embedding responsible practices across our business and are committed to ongoing learning, development, and progress. Our goal is to ensure that the travel experiences we create contribute positively to the people, communities, and environments of the beautiful island of Ireland.
We will continue to review, refine, and enhance our sustainability efforts to ensure they remain meaningful, practical, and aligned with best practice in responsible tourism.
Sustainability Management & Monitoring
360 Travel Design has appointed a Sustainability Coordinator who is responsible for coordinating the implementation of this policy, maintaining our Sustainability Action Plan, monitoring progress against sustainability objectives and acting as the main point of contact for sustainable matters.
Progress against our sustainability objectives is reviewed on a quarterly basis through internal management discussions. These reviews consider:
- progress against our Sustainability Action Plan
- supplier sustainability developments
- customer and supplier feedback
- staff suggestions
- opportunities for improvement
Actions arising from these reviews are documented and incorporated into future planning to ensure continuous improvement.
A commitment to reviewing and updating our policy annually
We commit to reviewing and updating this Sustainability Policy on an annual basis to ensure it remains current, relevant, and aligned with best practice in responsible tourism.
